This is a story about a man who became a great entrepreneur and literally, he started from nothing in his hands.
His family led a mediocre life in his childhood. He put an end to his education at the stage of SSC but, never gave up learning, to support his family financially. He started working as an calculator and radio repair shop in Mumbai for a wage of 1500/- over a period of five years, after a training for two months.
He gained an immersive knowledge and experience in the field of repairing calculators and radios and functioning of a busciness in general.
He to started his own business with a capital of 15000/- in a 100 sqft room on his own, for repairing radios and calculators and in an year he gained a profit of 45000/- yet not satisfied, he improved his skill-set by attending small computer training sessions .
After about an year, he again transformed his venture called “CAT Computer services” with an office based in a small-room electrical device repair station.
Even though he did begin the new venture, it was far more difficult than he imagined, due to lack of relevant experience and qualification.
But he never lost the hope, keeping his efforts at its maximum and pitching customers continuosly and aggressively. A few months later, he got his first break when two families signed up for maintenance of their personal computers for an annual fee of 2000/- each.
He achieved a gain of turn over more than a lakh in an year, after breaking into the corporate world by winning annual maintenance contract for “New India Insurance”.
When he was on a smooth raise in his business with AMC’s, the computer world entered into Viruses which transferred from floppy discs to computers resulting in data loss or financial thefts.
By then, his younger brother “Sanjay Katkar” was studying software engineering at Pune, and began to write software programmes. On his insistence Sanjay developed a basic antivirus and they called it “QUICK-HEAL”.
On the success of this antivirus, others also decided to give their computers on pay to save from malwares. Beside having competition, they released a Quick-heal antivirus for DOS in the year 1995 and for Windows in 1996 as well for a fee of 700/-. But, finding that nobody is willing to pay for it the duo decide to distribute it for free along with the computer AMC, and then came the turning point, Two deadly viruses- One Half and Natash!
The Quick-Heal is the only antivirus that can decrypt the files that are encrypt the files which were been attacked by these viruses. This made them capitalise the situation, making it a huge hit making a overnight success all over the world turning a profit o 12.19 lakh that year, from then there is no look back for them up to date.
This the story of the man who evolved from rags to riches.
